The 5th year kick-off of the project took place on Dec 14. On zoom again ! This did not however affect the scientific content of the meeting, though we missed on a free lunch, yet again !
This was amply compensated by a bunch of exciting talks by Oleg Balabanov (INRIA) on randomized algorithms, by Simon Bicquard (APC) on the map-making problem (a recent paper by Hamza and all), and by Gabriel Ducrocq (ENSAE) on recent progress in sampling algorithms as summarized in Gabriel’s latest paper …
We followed that by a discussion of some other recent papers in the field of potential interest for us and which were reported on by APC students: Arianna Rizzieri and Magdy Morshed. Due to numerous questions and insightful comments this last part went well over its allocated time and it was eventually postponed (and continued on Thursday, Dec 16, in the afternoon) …
We wrapped the Tuesday part of the meeting with a discussion of plans for the forthcoming, and unavoidably last, year of the project… which with no doubt got to a good start with this meeting !
